Day 186 Summer Sky (Photo A Day 2012)

This was the sky over Tyrone this morning. The summer so far has been a wash out with the wettest June on record  but we live in hope that the weather will pick up for the rest of July especially as myself and seven others will be sleeping rough for four days as part of the 32-32-32 penalty kick challenge around Ireland in aid of the Simon Community for the homeless. It take place from the 24th – 28th July.

Day 181 Famous Writers (Photo A Day 2012)

This is a famous  Irish writer beside a statue of James Joyce. They are standing at the junction of North Earl St and O’Connell St in Dublin. Dubliners always like to give their public art statues names. There was the “Floozie in the Jacuzzi” The departed Anna Livia statue which was on O’Connell St from 1988 until 2001. There is the “Tart With the Cart” or the “The Trollope with the Scallop” The Molly Malone Statue on Grafton St. “The Crank on The Bank” The Patrick Kavanagh statue on The Grand Canal and the “The Quare in the Square” Oscar Wilde in Merrion Square Park and “The Ace with the Bass” Phil Lynott’s statue on Harry St.. The statue of Joyce is known as “The Prick With the Stick” and the famous writer is Ronan McSherry. If they ever erect a statue to Ronan (he was born in Dublin) It will have to be “Ronan the Rant”!!

Day 180 32-32-32 For Simon (Photo A Day 2012)

This is a group of Tyrone GAA club members with Dublin Football star Barry Cahill in Croke Park. It was at the launch of a major fund raising initiative for The Simon Community between 24th – 28th July were the group will travel to all 32 counties in Ireland take 32 penalties at  club pitches and hopefully raise 32 euro/pounds from each club in Ireland. During the trip they will be sleeping rough on the streets in solidarity with the homeless for whom The Simon Community provides such vital support.  (L-R) Barry McElduff, Ronan McSherry, Plunkett “Oz” McCallan Barry Cahill Ciaran Slane, Ronan McMahon and Damian Crown. I will be going on the trip myself so there should be a good pictorial record of it all. CLICK HERE  for more information on how both clubs and individuals can contribute.
